Eleazar ben Kallir (or Killir) is considered the greatest representative of the classical paytanim (Jewish liturgical poets).

His poetry is known for its rich use of allusion, acrostics, repetition, and creative structure. The power of his poetry influenced subsequent generations of Jewish sacred poets for centuries after.
