Kuan Han-Ch'ing was one of the most celebrated playwrights of the Yuan dynasty. He lived in Beijing and had the reputation of a libertine.

His plays are particularly known for their exploration of female psychology, characters who, through suffering and intelligence, both endure and strengthen the character of the men around them.

Kuan Han-Ch'ing's poetry falls into that nebulous category that is sometimes referred to as Taoist drinking songs. They seem to praise the life of an itinerant drunk, though they might also be read on a more esoteric level. Several lines in his poetry suggest he at least understands there is deeper meaning to the poetry of figures like Tao Chien.
