The Mirror of the Sky: Songs of the Bauls of Bengal, Translated by Deben Bhattacharya

How the days drag
before union with the man of my heart!
Round the hours
of the day and night
as the rain-bird, chataka,
watches the clouds,
I gaze at the black-moon
hoping to surrender myself
at his feet--in vain.

Like lightning
flashing through the clouds
and hiding in the clouds
never to be found again,
I saw his beauty
flashing through my dreams
and I lost Krishna.
