Commentary by Ivan M. Granger

The "robe" can be understood as one's public persona, the social identity -- the ego.

Wine is the drink of blissful union with the Beloved, something not understood by those caught up in religious dogma and formalities.

So we can read these two lines as telling us to abandon the ego, and discover the bliss of union.
