Blessed Isaac of Stella was a monk and a Christian humanist whose thought integrated Neoplatonic and Aristotelian philosophy with Catholic mysticism, arguing that the intellect is given by God that people might conceive of divine truths. He was also an esoteric psychologist, exploring the different aspects of the soul and logic to elucidate mystical experience.

He was born in England, and was educated in both England and Paris. He joined the Cistercian order during the changes instituted by St. Bernard of Clairvaux. He later became abbot of a Cistercian community.

Isaac of Stella's best known written work is his Letter to Alcher on the Soul
