Abd al-Karim ibn Hawazin al-Qushayri is from Nishapur in what is today Iran.

His "Risala ila al-sufiyya" or "Epistle to the Sufis" is widely read in Persian Sufi circles, often called the "Treatise of Qushayri" or simply "Treatise," no other name required.

The Risala is an interwoven collection of brief essays on Sufism and mystical experience, accented with anecdotes, sayings, and poetry. Its insight, clarity, and readability make it one of the most respected and studied early works on the Sufi way.

Poems by Qushayri

My ordeal in you is that
  The round of a cup
  The Watchers
  When morning arose
Your waking through my words to you
