Anonymous - Yakut Prayer

Yakut Prayer
by Yakut (Anonymous)

My words are tied in one
With the great mountains,
With the great rocks,
With the great trees,
In one with my body
And my heart.
Do you all help me
With supernatural power,
And you, Day,
And you, Night,
All of you see me
One with the world!

What a beautiful prayer the Yakut have given to the world (or, perhaps, it is the world that has given it to them). This prayer powerfully evokes unity between the individual and the living totality of nature… The natural world is called upon to give strength, focus, guidance, communion, and finally witness:

All of you see me
One with the world!

A good prayer to carry with you on a walk in the fields or hills or forests. Or even an overgrown lot in the city. Have a beautiful day today, at one with the world!

Primal/Tribal/Shamanic : Native American

Attributing this to the 19th century is a guess. The source book did not estimate the date of composition.

The Yakut are a Native American tribe of California.

    Hello Ivan

“Ekongkar” there is just One Creative Being and we are all part of it.

Oh i like this poem very much. I like all this simple everyday words which create a full image of the world of the Yakut people (not that i know, but that is how i think their world must have been).
But i have problem with the word “supernatural”, it seems a too modern word for this poem. Of course this is a translation out of the native language of the Yakut; i wonder what the original word was? Maybe there is no other translation…maybe i just don’t “feel” the word supernatural in the right way, because english is not my mother tongue. I am trying to translate this prayer in Dutch and i think i will use something like “divine” or “spiritual” power…

Thank you again, Ivan, for giving this prayer of native America to all of us.

thanks, ivan, for sharing this poem. individual soul is indeed a part of the universal soul, and this is what this prayer seems to convey. kind regards.
