Music & Video – Claymation Joy to the World
I haven’t seen the Claymation Christmas Special on TV for years, but it’s one of my favorites. The Claymation version of Joy to the World is a work of beauty, shifting colors and clay collages…
Merry Christmas!
One of the things that I’ve always loved about the Claymation Christmas — in addition to its creativity and fun — is that it’s the only Christmas special I can think of that isn’t entirely populated by white characters. Sure, this is animation, not real people at all, but in this Joy to the World clip, for example, many of the faces are clearly the faces of black children, fathers, mothers. And in the closing segment, the California Raisins are obviously an African American singing group. The animators don’t even shy away from placing them in an inner city. Love that.
Thanks so much for all the Cheer throughout the Year! Your efforts and thoughtfulness are much appreciated
