A Spiritual Journey

And the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles,
\nno matter how long,
\nbut only by a spiritual journey,
\na journey of one inch,
\nvery arduous and humbling and joyful,
\nby which we arrive at the ground at our feet,
\nand learn to be at home.<\/em><\/p>\n

I keep returning to the poetry of Wendell Berry. Few writers these days are truly willing to be still and to befriend the world of growing things outside the city limits. In the modern world, that\u2019s practically blasphemy. Writers like that get labeled \u201cpoet\u201d and \u201ccrank\u201d so they can be safely ignored \u2014 unless their writing is unavoidably good. Wendell Berry\u2019s words are like that.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for the hyperactive world, Wendell Berry\u2019s poetry is filled with the presence and heart secretly craved by us all, making it difficult to ignore. <\/p>\n

And the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles,
\nno matter how long\u2026<\/i><\/p>\n
