mountain sounds carry a chill wisdom
\nan upwelling spring whispers subtle tales
\npine breezes stir the fire beneath my tea
\nbamboo shadows soak deep into my robe<\/p>\n

I grind my ink: clouds scraping across the crags
\ncopy out a verse: birds settling on branches
\nas the world rolls right on by
\nits every turn tracing out non-action<\/em><\/p>\n

A serene moment today. This poem, to me, evokes a chill mountain solitude, a bit lonely, yet tranquil. You want to wrap a blanket around your shoulders, hold a hot cup of tea in your hands, and watch the world unfold around you.<\/p>\n

The soughing sounds of the mountain speak to us\u2013<\/p>\n

mountain sounds carry a chill wisdom
\nan upwelling spring whispers subtle tales<\/i><\/p>\n

The outside world reaches inside our circle\u2013<\/p>\n

pine breezes stir the fire beneath my tea
\nbamboo shadows soak deep into my robe<\/i><\/p>\n

In return, our meditative work mimics the world we witness\u2013<\/p>\n

I grind my ink: clouds scraping across the crags
\ncopy out a verse: birds settling on branches<\/i><\/p>\n

And we disappear into the world, seeing how nature moves and shifts and yet remains entirely still\u2013<\/p>\n

as the world rolls right on by
\nits every turn tracing out non-action<\/i><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cShih-shu\u201d is a term that can be translated as \u201crock and bark poetry\u201d \u2014 nature poetry that often poked fun at the bustle of city life and city mind. Rather than brushed onto fine paper, shih-shu poems were scratched into pieces of bark, bamboo, or rocks.<\/p>\n

In the early 1700s, one poet took the widely used term as a nom de plume, making it difficult to know much about the author\u2026 other than through the poems themselves.<\/p>\n
