{"id":8453,"date":"2024-07-26T08:05:01","date_gmt":"2024-07-26T15:05:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.poetry-chaikhana.com\/blog\/?p=8453"},"modified":"2024-07-26T08:12:49","modified_gmt":"2024-07-26T15:12:49","slug":"lynn-ungar-camas-lilies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.poetry-chaikhana.com\/blog\/2024\/07\/26\/lynn-ungar-camas-lilies\/","title":{"rendered":"Lynn Ungar &#8211; Camas Lilies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Camas Lilies<br \/>\nby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetry-chaikhana.com\/Poets\/U\/UngarLynn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lynn Ungar<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Consider the lilies of the field,<br \/>\nthe blue banks of camas<br \/>\nopening into acres of sky along the road.<br \/>\nWould the longing to lie down<br \/>\nand be washed by that beauty<br \/>\nabate if you knew their usefulness,<br \/>\nhow the natives ground their bulbs<br \/>\nfor flour, how the settlers\u2019 hogs<br \/>\nuprooted them, grunting in gleeful<br \/>\noblivion as the flowers fell?<\/p>\n<p>And you \u2014 what of your rushed<br \/>\nand useful life? Imagine setting it all down \u2014<br \/>\npapers, plans, appointments, everything \u2014<br \/>\nleaving only a note: \u201cGone<br \/>\nto the fields to be lovely. Be back<br \/>\nwhen I\u2019m through with blooming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even now, unneeded and uneaten,<br \/>\nthe camas lilies gaze out above the grass<br \/>\nfrom their tender blue eyes.<br \/>\nEven in sleep your life will shine.<br \/>\nMake no mistake. In her professional life she serves as a minister for the Church of the Larger Fellowship, an online congregation for Unitarian Universalists and other religious liberals. In her free time she trains dogs for competition in obedience, agility and canine musical freestyle (dancing with dogs). She is also an avid singer and contra dancer.
