Rabbi Naftali Hertz ben Yaakov Elchanan (Bacharach) was born in Frankfurt, Germany in the early 17th century.

He is the author of Emek HaMelekh (Valley of the King), considered by many to be one of the most influential and authoritative books on Lurianic Kabbalah, though the book apparently borrowed heavily from other earlier sources.
