Tree
by Aurobindo
A tree beside the sandy
River-beach
Holds up its topmost boughs
Like fingers towards the skies
They cannot reach,
Earth-bound, heaven-amorous.
This is the soul of man.
Body and brain
Hungry for earth
our heavenly flight detain.
