I have heard that today Hari will come

by Mirabai

English version by A. J. Alston

I have heard that today Hari will come.

O my companion,
I will climb my high palace
To see when my King will come
Frogs, peacocks and papihas are calling.

The koil is striking its plaintive note
Indra is exulting, rain is falling everywhere.
The lightning is dancing without shame
The earth robes herself anew
To greet Indra.

Says Mira, O my Master, the courtly Giridhara
Come quickly, my King
