Meher Baba is considered by his followers to be the avatar of the age. He is an important spiritual teacher of the 20th century, bridging Muslim and Hindu traditions, inspiring seekers of the East and West. In popular culture, he was known for his influence on the rock band The Who, a key inspiration for their rock opera Tommy.

Meher Baba was himself a great lover of sacred poetry, inspiring many poets and translators, including Francis Brabazon and Daniel Ladinsky (well-known for his poetry in the spirit of Hafiz). Perhaps less well known is that Meher Baba composed his own songs and poetry.
