e. e. cummings – i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me
by e. e. cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

This poem grabbed my attention this morning, one of the most loved of e. e. cummings poems.

It is a love poem, but its language somehow elevates us beyond romantic sentiment.

I won’t say a lot today, just highlight a few of my favorite lines:

and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life

and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

and, most especially–

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Oh, and have a beautiful full moon weekend. It feels like an intense moon so go gentle on yourself and others. And maybe we’ll figure out “whatever a moon has always meant…”

I love this poem! I never tire of saying it, reading it, even singing it …I make up my own tune. So THANK YOU, Ivan for yet another chance to enjoy it. I just thought I’d add that the music playing in the background on the radio when I opened the e-mail was Rodrigo’s ‘ Aranjuez ‘. Perfect accompaniment…all in the lineage of Love!
Full moon blessings to you in return.

Because of your post, I listened to Rodrigo’s Aranjuez. A stunning, spacious landscape evoked by the guitar. Although I don’t know a lot about it, I have really come to appreciate both classical guitar and flamenco guitar in recent years. And I agree, Aranjuez is a beautiful accompaniment to this poem — thank you.

    thank you ivan

    it is so strange that
    we all love someone
    who has no body
    who is invisible yet
    who is ocean of love.
    many souls have married Him
    many have surrendered
whole of their lives to Him and
    consider themselves to be
    His puppets and always carry
    His heart in their hearts.
who has created moon and sun.
    all hanging in the sky
    without any support.
    Isn’t it mysterious!!

Thank You, Ivan, another touching poem. I love Poetry Chaikhana and I love e.e. cummins, and this poem goes to my daughter, there had been sickness, and she is
recovering, and she is in my heart. I am so very thankful. Peace and Love, Carol

Ohhhh, this theme about ‘Aranjuez’ has influenced me too…

I have listening it many times and every time it deeply has touched my heart…

But today, I re-read the poem and re-listen Rodrigos’ concerto,

tears began to drop on my cheeks and I felt in the music

the whole pain of the soul….all up’s and down’s…the sorrow…

    …the grief…the fears…the wounds…its whole journey….

    …as the author said:

“I heard a voice inside me singing the entire theme of the Adagio at one go,
    without hesitation. And immediatly afterwards,
without a break, the theme of the third movement.
I realized quickly that the work was done.
Our intuition does not deceive us in these things…”

    Joaquín Rodrigo, 1938

    and yet…

…the tears was like a clearing, detoxification, releasing, letting go…naturally …

    Thank you marrob and Ivan!
