New book coming soon

Published by at 8:49 am under Books

I wanted to let everyone know that the Poetry Chaikhana will be publishing a new book soon! It is titled The Awakened One: Buddha-Themed Haiku from Around the World, edited by Adjei Agyei-Baah and Gabriel Rosenstock. This is a lovely collection pairing classic Japanese haiku with contemporary haiku written by poets from all over the world — from Nigeria, Croatia, India, Australia, Switzerland and Singapore, Brazil and Bulgaria. Haiku has become a worldwide art form.

This pocket-sized collection is a meditative dialog in haiku on questions of enlightenment, transience, nature, time and timelessness.

Keep an eye out for the book announcement in the next few weeks.

    Hi Ivan,

In last days was contemplating about your new coming publishing book with Buddha haiku theme.

What an interesting choice of the title and probably the content.

Was thinking about the life of Buddha and his last words as very appropriate today:

“Believe not because an old book is produced as an authority. Believe not because your father said [you should] believe the same. Believe not because other people like you believe it. Test everything, try everything, and then believe it, and if you find it for the good of many, give it to all.

Behold ,O monks, this is my last advice to you. All component things in the world are changeable. They are not lasting. Work hard to gain your own salvation.”

Later naturally came a simple haiku:

    Summer time
    all the world in fires
    even Buddha heart ache…

May all good wishes and high heart energies lighten and Blessed the path of this book!

With respect to the authors and you…

    Anna M.
